The undercurrent of my work explores the alternating identities of science and faith. Both concepts weigh heavily and the dichotomy of discovering one at the expense the other leaves me incomplete. Exploring the digitally coded nature of DNA by analogy, many pieces manipulate the digital information systems of a computer. Moreover, just as DNA molecules produce a unique individual, each work re-uses or re-combines segments and symbols of other paintings or imagery, yet culminates in a separate and distinct painting, adding collage, paint, or sculptural aspects and discovered objects, just as the individual is marked by experience on her way to identity. Questions of faith, destiny and choice are recorded in text, and metaphoric figures and themes. In the end, family members, stories, personal experience, confessional journal entries, and scientific methodology, are juxtaposed bringing these diverse elements together in a finished work that evokes a strange and volatile whole.
